On February 16, 2005, Assembly Member Baca (D-San Bernardino) introduced AB 492. AB 492, if enacted, would "require a business concern that handles or
otherwise uses perchlorate in the course of its operations,
including a generator otherwise exempt from the hazardous waste facilities permit requirements, to submit a report to the department, by January 1, 2007, and by January 1 annually thereafter, detailing the manner in which the perchlorate waste is disposed." (Quote from Legislative Counsel's digest of bill). The reference to "exempt" "generator[s]" above means that dry cleaners in the State would pick up new reporting duties.
AB 492 follows closely on the heels of Assembly Member Baca's introduction of AB 342 (see February 11, 2005 Post below).
