PRO-LAB, a maker of various home safety test kits, issued a press release the day before yesterday announcing that the company's PRO-LAB® "Do-It-Yourself Mold Test Kit that is a safe, reliable and easy to use test kit to detect ... potentially deadly spores, ... will soon be available at select Wal-Mart stores around the country."
The press release further advised that the home-testing kits are widely available even now:
"These test kits are available to the general public at over 40,000 leading home centers, hardware stores, pharmacy chains, supermarkets, and a wide category of specialty outlets – stores include The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace Hardware, Kroger, Distribution America, CVS/pharmacy, True Value, Scotty’s, Distribution America -- and this summer at various Wal-Mart stores."
PRO-LAB apparently sells a wide-range of home safety testing kits, including kits for testing for radon, lead and carbon monoxide. The company seems to be taking the "do-it-yourself" market to a whole new level, although I expect that professional consultants will probably caution about the limitations on the information that can presently be revealed by self-testing.
If you have any experience using home safety testing kits, please post a comment letting me and the readers know about the experience.

Will Kooiman on 10/22/2011 at 06:30I didn't realize there were such high quialty model kits available. I used to build models all the time when I was a kid. I might have to start back up again.By the way, I was turned onto this video because of the DeTomaso Pantera. I hope Fujimi builds the Pantera, and especially if they do a GT5S version. I have a 72 Pre-L, which I love, but I think the GT5S is the best looking Pantera of all time.

In this day and age it is vital to expose poinattel issues. I also believe adolescents want to have boundaries. This provides a tangible boundary and gives them an excuse to say no.

I think I would be a little apprehensive about how much effective this kit would be. However, if this kit works, then I must say that this would turn out to be something very useful.

Do it yourself kits should be useful...this is a common problem and has to be met in the eye and got rid of it.

I think this would be a very useful device if it is truly successful in finding out the molds. Lets wait and watch and hope for the best.

Well done blog. Do it yourself is not the expression I would use for dealing with mold. For some people the detriment to their health occurs on the first exposure.
