The State Water Resources Control Board is adopting Statewide standards for the permitting, repair, performance and upgrading of septic tank systems. These regulations, which will be found in Title 27 of the California Code of Regulations, mark the first Statewide regulation of such systems.
You can access the proposed regulations here and the Board's web page dealing more generally with the topic of septic systems here.

It's been 7 years since these regulations/standards were implemented to be applied to septic tanks. So, how has it been effective in California? I think with these regulations, more families can save in water supply because of the mere fact that their tanks are well-maintained and durable, thus preventing possible cases of leaks and rusting of tanks.

Same thing happened to us 10 years ago. Our Home Owner's isuarnnce didn't cover it and neither did the city because it was an old septic tank that collapsed. We didn't even know it was there! Apparently when the house was hooked up to city years before, they had the city hook up on one side and the house hooked up on the other. We had to have the front porch removed, the old tank removed, new pipes put in and the whole front yard back filled. Our isuarnnce guy said there was absolutely nothing that could have helped us. Even back then it cost us $7000References :

I have installed many sepitc systems over the years. It sounds like you have not had your sepitc tank pumped out on a regular basis. What happens is that sludge eventually builds up in your tank and overflows to your leach field or tank. In order to give you a more detailed fix contact me thru ANSWERS with the details on what exactly the layout of your leach field-tank is and the soil type and how often you have had your sepitc tank cleaned. Also how long this system has been in operation. Thanx HEY -I hope you read this answer again because I sent you a return e-mail and it wont go thru because you haven`t confirmed your e-mail with Yahoo Answers. I cant help you if I cant reply.

That regulation is very appropriate with the common septic tank that we use. Maybe we should implement that in all country for better.
