The legislature is considering AB 2640, which would remove the protections presently in effect per the California Endangered Species Act. AB 2640 would be part of an effort to remove dams in order to ensure that farmers in northern California continue to have an adequate water supply.
In the meantime, Indian tribes in the region have filed suit in federal court to continue to protect the fish in the Klamath region (southern Oregon and northern California), including a motion prohibiting the diversion of more water to the farms. The motion is scheduled for hearing on July 11, 2018.
